Tuli

Tuli is a Sanga breed of cattle originating in Africa. They are moderate framed and known for being heat tolerant and disease resistant. Their coats are variations of red, yellow and white. They have moderate sized ears and dewlap. They can be horned or polled. They are known for their early maturity, docile nature, good mothering ability and high fertility.

In the early 1940’s, Len Harvey began a government breeding program at Tuli Station in Zimbabwe, which was then know as Rhodesia.   He drew upon indigenous cattle raised by the Tswana people, an ethnic group in Southern Africa. As the story goes, he named them Tuli because they are the same color as the silt of the near by Tuli (Thuli) river. Through the use of embryo transfer, 74 Tuli calves were imported into Australia in 1990.
